In my previous article for the Software Reviews section I was testing Anti-Trojan version 5.5, a program that defeats malicious Trojans by detecting and removing them from your PC.
Now we turn to its competitor, PestPatrol (version 10.23.2003). After familiarizing myself with its features I can report that PestPatrol (PP) provides a wider range of functionality than your ordinary anti-Trojan software.
PP can detect and remove not only Trojan horses, but other pests such as spyware, ad-ware and various probe tools as well. PP can also remove unwanted cookies
Let's take a closer look at this program and see how it performs.
After a very quick install without any reboots we see the program's icon in the system tray. Double-clicking on it and selecting "Launch PestPatrol" opens the program's main window:
Select the drives or folders you want to scan from the left panel and press the Add button. Begin the scanning process by pressing the Start button in the upper right corner.
But be sure to update the database of known pests to the most current version before any scan, of course.
To do this you go to the "Options" tab and select "Updates" or you can do it faster by selecting "Options" from the top drop-down menu and click "Updates". Pressing the "Update now" button starts the download:
After updating you need to restart the application and you're all set to scan.
