- What are leak tests?
Leak tests are programs that are used to check how a firewall protects the host system from attempts by malware to steal data. These tests simulate attacks that are designed to circumvent firewall protection. Essentially, leak tests evaluate to what extent your firewall allows illegitimate outgoing data transmissions. These tests don't cause damage; they simply point out weaknesses in firewall software.
- What do I need in order to run leaktests?
You need an Internet connection, a firewall and the leaktest software.
- How is PCFlank's Leaktest different?
PCFlank's Leaktest uses a special technique called OLE automation of application control to check how your firewall handles the situation where one program attempts to manage the behavior of another program, which your firewall has been set to trust.
- Is PCFlank's Leaktest safe for my computer?
Yes, it is safe and it won't cause any harm or disruption to your PC. The data this test attempts to send out is only data you supply for testing purposes.
- How do I use the program?
Simply download the program at www.pcflank.com/PCFlankLeaktest.exe and run it according to the interface instructions. You need to be connected to the Internet in order for the program to work correctly. The instructions are so easy and clear that even inexperienced computer users can easily check their systems.
- After I have completed the test, how can I evaluate my protection status?
After the test is completed, the PCFlank's Leaktest will display a full description. Your firewall is given either a pass or a flunk.
If your firewall passes the test you will see a message to that effect along with an icon depicting a closed tap.
If your firewall fails the test you will see a message that it failed along with the tap icon showing water dripping from its tip, meaning your firewall is leaky and you should take additional measures to secure your computer. Additionally, you will be provided with a web link to the text you typed in during the test, which proves the text sneaked by your firewall and reached PC Flank's server.
