Keep in mind that a file's innocuous extension (*.txt, *.jpg, *.gif) does not necessarily mean that this file is what it claims to be. Check it with your anti-virus software.

ZoneLabs releases new ZoneAlarm Pro

June 20, 2003

Zone Labs® Inc., a leading creator of endpoint security solutions, last week announced the immediate availability of ZoneAlarm® Pro 4.0, the newest version of the company's award-winning Internet security product.

ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 includes new, stronger Internet security measures including updated anti-hacker and anti-Spyware safeguards to combat the latest vulnerabilities and exploits. In addition to overall 'hardening' of security, ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 extends its popular MailSafe feature to examine both outbound, as well as inbound, email for potentially harmful file attachments. This feature is particularly useful in stopping malicious email-borne 'worms' from proliferating.

Another innovation designed to help keep the Internet safer is the new Hacker ID feature, which gives members of the Zone Labs community the ability to track and report attacks on their PCs safely, thus making it more difficult for prolific hackers to ply their craft.

Also new in ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 is CacheCleaner which speeds overall PC performance while preventing invasions of privacy by cookie-snooping web sites.

"Zone Labs takes its commitment to protecting our users very seriously," said Frederick Felman, vice president of marketing, Zone Labs. "Our customers rely on us to continue strengthening our existing features as well as raising the bar for new standards in PC protection. We are constantly on the alert for new threats and theoretical exploits from the hacker community so that our customers receive proactive protection."

In keeping with Zone Labs' philosophy that powerful security must be easy to use, ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 further enhances overall user-friendliness so that even the novice user's PC receives the utmost in 'out of the box' protection. In addition, telecommuters and mobile workers will find it easier to connect to their enterprise networks safely while working remotely since ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 can now automatically detect and configure VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections. For the expert user, ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 now features the ability to set traditional firewall rules to provide precision control over a variety of firewall settings.

In the nearest future PC Flank considers testing new ZoneAlarm Pro along with other personal firewalls against popular leak tests.
