Tip of the day
Keep in mind that a file's innocuous extension (*.txt, *.jpg, *.gif) does not necessarily mean that this file is what it claims to be. Check it with your anti-virus software.

by Dancho Danchev
Frame4 Security Systems.

Browsing the Internet could be fun and educational, while on the other hand it poses a major Security threat to your PC, where you might face situations like contributing to the disemination of malicious code (viruses, trojans, worms) or expose all of your sensitive and confidential information to a malicious attacker.

This brief article consists of small tips that would definitely enhance your current level of Security Awareness while browsing the Internet.

Most of the average Internet users do not update their software products as often as they should be,thus having old, buggy programs that are easily exploited due to the fact that they are not patched with the fixes their vendor releases on a regular basis.

You must update your browser or any other type of Software, as often as possible, in order to reduce the risk of having easily exploited programs running on your computer. Download the required patches only from your vendor's web site, stay away from other sites providing updates, as those definitely contain malicious code within. Visit their offial web sites at least one per week, to ensure yourself that the latest version of the software is the only on your PC.

Here are the URL's of the most popular Internet based programs:

Hacker Web Sites

A lot of visitors are attracted by the so called "Hacker Web Sites" proving their visitors with huge archives or flooders, nukers ,trojans and other malicious programs. Often within these files there are already infected one, taking advantage of the user's naivety. Stay away from these sites, which are often located on some Free Web Space provider as Geocities, Tripod etc.

Downloading

You should be very suspicious while download anything from the Internet, consider this as a potential Security problem if the right measures are not well taken care of. Do not download from unknown and untrusted web sites, those defined as malicious one are the abovementioned "Hacker one", and anything else located at some Free Web Space provider. Consider scanning everything using a Anti-Virus,Antri-Trojan scanner, before running thus guaranteeing at some level that the file is not a destructive one, although these scanners can't provide 100% protection, it's recommended to use them.

Don't be so naive on everything that you see online ,be suspicious to everything if you care of your computer's Security.
